Jayaprada is one of the leading artists of India and a sought after musician worldwide, playing Indian classical Carnatic music on the bamboo flute. She is the first female flautist to have represented the state of Andhra Pradesh at renowned National & International music festivals, as a solo artist. Daughter of the renowned carnatic vocalist Prema Ramamurthy, Jayaprada has acquired a natural flair for flute playing from her maternal great-grandfather Srinivasa Iyer who was the Zamindar of Bellary during 1920s, besides being a criminal lawyer & a carnatic flautist. The bamboo flute became a medium of expression for Jayaprada's innate talent as a musician. Jayaprada is well known for her perfect adherence to pitch, immaculate sense of rhythmic precision, mathematical wizardry in Swaraprasthara (improvisations) and melodious tonal quality. She has evolved a unique style which brings out the best of both instrumental and vocal techniques of presentation. Jayaprada has also been acclaimed as the first female flautist from India, to use both the Bass & Piccolo type of bamboo flutes & the western-key flute on the concert platform, for playing improvisations in Carnatic Music. |
